Costa Del Sol English Schools
Aloha College is authorised by the Spanish Ministry of Education to operate both as a British-style school in Spain following the guidelines of the British National Curriculum and as a Spanish-style school offering the Spanish LOGSE programme. Under this dual-curriculum arrangement, all pupils study English and Spanish and those students who wish to do so are able to gain qualifications under both the Spanish and British examination system. The college presents candidates for IGCSE examinations and is an important centre in southern Spain for the examinations of the University of Cambridge in English as a Second Language. Students at pre-university level follow a programme leading to the award of the International Baccalaureate Diploma and may also acquire national qualifications by careful integration into the curriculum of courses leading to ESO, Bachillerato and Selectividad, thereby ensuring entry to universities world-wide including Europe, particularly UK and Spain, and USA. The student body consists of 39 nationalities - including 23% Spanish and 32% British - and, as befits an international community, there is a strong emphasis on language teaching. In addition to English, Spanish, French and German, Swedish and Russian are also provided. The staff are fully qualified UK or Spanish graduates, supported by a full-time Schools Librarian, a Science technician and qualified Nursery Nurses in the Foundation Stage department. Aloha College was purpose-built in 1982 and extended in 1990 and 1996 to cover 3,000 sq m on 4 floors. In addition to normal classroom provision, the modern facilities include four well-equipped laboratories, 2 state-of-the-art computer suites (with internet and e-mail facilities for every student), an outstanding library with computer provision, an art studio with photographic darkroom. There are two all-weather sports pitches (one is Astroturf) and students follow a varied and structured outdoor pursuits programme. Expressive Arts teaching forms part of the normal curriculum, and extra-curricular activities include ballet, modern dance and a variety of sporting or artistic activities. In September 2004, the Senior School pupils will move into brand-new Arts and Science blocks, where the spacious, airy classrooms are also air-conditioned, as is the new Library. Apart from enjoying fabulous views of the sea and mountains, the pupils will also have access to the latest equipment in science and IT. The school year is organised on a 3-termly basis, starting in early September and ending in the last week of June. The school day runs from 9.00 am to 4.00 pm and there is a full school meals service in the middle of the day. Supervised school bus services run from Fuengirola and Estepona plus all intermediate points. Admission is by submission of school reports, interview and testing, carried out by the relevant Head of School. Every effort has been made to ensure the accuracy of the information presented in this prospectus. Nonetheless Aloha College is a living institution and changes may be made at short notice. This prospectus, therefore, does not form a contract between parents and school. Property
